Sharath Sury was born in Michigan, USA. An accelerated student, he entered the Science Academy of Austin at the age of 12. Sharath had an early propensity for science and mathematics, winning numerous accolades, including being featured in the National Geographic World for being the youngest person in the US to operate a scanning electron microscope.

At 15, he was recruited by Lockheed Missiles & Space Co. for his technical expertise in computing, and helped design computer programs as part of the DoD's Strategic Defense Initiative.His technical experience in the late '80s also included stints at MCC and IBM where he was assigned to programs ranging from developing artificial intelligence systems to teaching and implementing statistical process control for engineers.

He graduated from the University of California with an undergrad degree in Economics. He applied his early technical and business experiences to law enforcement; serving in the Greater Austin Area Organized Crime Task Force and in the Santa Clara District Attorney's Economic Crimes Unit after the police academy. His primary assignments included investigating felony white collar crimes, economic crimes, and industrial espionage.

Sharath graduated from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business with an MBA in Finance & Statistics. He was recruited by Goldman Sachs, where he worked from 1994 to 2000 and was named one of the firm's youngest Vice Presidents. Upon Goldman Sachs' IPO, Sharath formed his own investment firm, eventually turning it into one of the nation's top wealth advisers (#2 in 2005, and #1 in 2006 and 2007, according to Bloomberg Wealth Manager).

After selling his firm, Sharath served as the Dean's Executive Professor of Finance at Santa Clara University and as a Visiting Scholar/Adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of California, where he has taught investment theory, corporate finance, applied portfolio management, and endowment management.
