Sharifa Yu
Student and Mother in 香港
My name is Sharifa, I am studying the course of Language in Its Social Context at City University of Hong Kong. I am living in Hong Kong where I was born. In my daily life, I usually speak Cantonese with my family, friends and colleagues. However, there is code-switching between Cantonese and English in my speaking and I think it is the result of living in a post-British colonial region.
Except my degree of Bachelor of Language Studies (English), I have studied some courses related to the field of Psychology and Fashion. I have 3 years teaching experience in Primary Schools as a remedial teacher to assist P.2 – P.5 students to do their homework after school.
The nature of my present job is related to administration in a big commercial company. I not only have to contact many coworkers in different departments through email by English but also have to write different types of report in my daily routine job.
The reason for me to study this course is I want to obtain a Master Degree. I had always wanted to obtain one when I was young but I did not have the opportunity to do so. Now, I hope I could finish the course and then to complete my study next year.
After finishing my programme, I want to spend more time on leisure such as reading literature, gardening and going on more vacations to enjoy my life.
