Bharatnatyam originates in Tamil Nadu which is also referred to as artistic yoga and Natya yoga. The name Bharatnatyam is derived from the word "Bharata" and thus associated with the Natyashastra. Though the style of Bharatnatyam is over two thousand years old, the freshness and richness of its essence has been retained even today.
Born in Chennai,Tamilnadu but brought up completely from Bangalore, Sharika Shivani is very keen and interested on dance right from her age 4. She currently studies 6th Standard at Cathedral High School,Bangalore.
Sharika was fortunate to have trained intensively under the legendry dancer Mrs Indira at Bangalore. Sharika Shivani has also been under the guidance of the eminent Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan. She also learnt western dance and good at performing fusions.
Everyone who has seen Sharika perform is struck by her unique thought process and fresh approach to dance. While deeply rooted in tradition she has evolved her own individual style without forsaking the core principles of Bharata Natyam.
Sharika has been performing professionally for the past 7 years and is one of the most sought after dancers of her generation.
She brings to her dance a rare sense of devotion and dedication, which leaves the audience with a sense of spiritual fulfillment.
She has received critical acclaim for her extraordinary skills in choreography and has made several humble contributions to the Bharatanatyam repertoire.
She is also a very good western dancer who can perform fusion with a mix of different varieties into the dance.
