Shariq Khan has his roots in the Sahswan Rampur Gharana of music.

Rampur-Sahaswan gharana is a gharana (musical heritage) of Hindustani classical music centered in the North-Uttar Pradesh towns of Rampur and Sahaswan. Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan (1849–1919) was the founder of this gharana.

Shariq Khan's search for excellence in Hindustani music began during his School days. He participated in many inter school competitions. His 'inspiration' to take up singing was from Hariharan & Sonu Nigam, which urged him to learn music and take singing as his career.

He took his lessons of Hindustani Classical Music at a very early age from his Guru Padmashree Ustad Ghulam Sadiq Khan & Ustad Ghulam Abbas Khan.

Shariq Khan started performing at a very young age and has traveled across the globe having performed successfully in various cultural concerts, festivals of India and music concerts in Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE and USA among some of the famous countries.
