Student, Consultant, and Public Speaker

Hey, I am Sharon a passionate limnologist and environmentalist. I am a PhD student at BOKU (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences) focusing on greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from river systems, ground water and wetlands.

My previous research focused on “GHG from headwater streams and rivers” which informed and directed my path to GHG. I also worked on Alum sludge management using constructed wetlands. Lake Victoria Management Project Phase II.

My work in Uganda at National Water & Sewerage Corporation focuses on water and waste water treatment, quality monitoring, assurance and catchment monitoring on the lake Victoria Inner Murchison bay and Napoleon gulf.

I am actively involved in several professional groups that aim to achieve sustainability and growth. These include and are not limited to; the African Women in Science (AWIS) and the Lake Victoria Advisory Group under African Center for Aquatic Research and Education (ACARE). I also work with the Young Water Professionals Uganda Chapter, mobilizing youth for integrated water resources management, organizing sensitization campaigns, clean-up drives at landing sites and surrounding communities and tree planting. I am a member of the Women in Geographical Information Systems (WiGIS) which focuses on “Empowering Women in the Geo-spatial industry in Uganda to connect, learn and make an impact through Geospatial technologies”. We do clean ups twice a year around the Lake Victoria catchment especially at landing sites and tree planting for catchment restoration while partnering with other like minded groups. we also hold monthly webinars to share information. We also lead a new youth movement promoting wetland and peatland conservation in Uganda.
