I've reported, written, and edited at a variety of news outlets and businesses over three decades, but working for 24-hour cable news on 9/11 will forever mark the journalism that I want to be a part of - fearless, tireless, unflinching commitment to getting the facts to the public as fast as possible without causing more horror and collective shock than we already experienced. Journalism can be that way again. We just have to be honest and not worry about whether the truth fits an agenda. The world changed that day and it's obvious now the long game that was at play. We cannot let it destroy us from the inside out, just as the scars on a broken heart cannot stop us from loving again. We have to keep seeking truth, even when it's unpleasant, but we also must look for how unpleasantries can help us become better individuals, communities, and societies.
