I never wanted to be a librarian. All I saw were diligent keepers of the books maintaining peace and quiet. Naturally I wanted more out of life. I am a teacher, creatively utilizing my skills outside of the walls of public schools, out where people live and move and breathe. Most of my time I was untilizing my music education background within the church both in leadership positions as well as volunteer. I also taught private lessons in piano, voice, and trombone.
When I lost my husband, I turned inward and began to write. As a result, I began to look in a different direction for my career. Writing was fulfilling but did not fully satisfy the teacher within. I became a teacher assistant to explore my possiblities in the education field. Circumstances led me to consider becoming a school librarian which initially I rejected.
Two words changed my mind: collaboration and technology - both spoken within the context of school librarianship. I sat up and took notice. The more I found out about the recent changes in librarianship, the more excited I became. Suddenly this field has become everything I had been searching for in a profession. My desire to enable others to learn in creative expanding ways has found roots and I am anxious to grow and learn in this field.
