Sharon Shayo

Sharon Leonard Shayo (born in February 11, 1991) is a Fashion Designer and CEO/Creative Director of Yechi & Yuchi, a fashion empire she created in 2011 which deals with clothing and home decor.

Sharon was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with Chagga parents, the late Prof. Leonard Shayo and Dr. Rose Shayo. Her journey into fashion industry began in the late 2006 at the age of fifteen when pursuing her O’level studies at Shaaban Robert Secondary School in Dar es Salaam. Her initial ideas were tested by designing clothes for her close friends and family members. Since then Sharon continued perfecting her dream of becoming a designer by designing dresses for special occasions such as kitchen parties, send- off parties and weddings. This gave her an opportunity to show her talent.

In 2012 Sharon showcased two collections, 1st one in March when she showcased some of her designs during the 2012 Women’s Celebration organized by 8020 Fashions; and 2nd one in December 2012, when she showcased at the 2012 Swahili Fashion Week that was held in Dar es Salaam. In 2013 she showcased her 3rd collection at the Swahili Fashion Week 2013. She was also nominated for best Upcoming Designer of the year at the 2013 Swahili Fashion Week.

Sharon is currently pursuing her undergraduate studies at the University of Dar es Salaam CVL (Centre for Virtual Learning), specializing in Business Administration. Her love for fashion is inspired and influenced by Kimora Lee Simmons, and her mother who has always been a great fan of African prints, which are the main fabric that Sharon incorporates in her designs.

It is her goal to turn fashion label Yechi & Yuchi into an "aspirational lifestyle brand". The designer’s fashion pieces are available in limited editions for both men and women, in formal and casual wear. And soon Yechi & Yuchi will launch its 1st Kids Collection.
