Sharon Baptist Head Start

A Bronx, New York provider of early childcare, education, health, nutrition, and social services, Sharon Baptist Head Start aims to meet the unique needs of each child and family. Utilizing a Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline methodology, Sharon Baptist Head Start upholds a mission to create a school family focused on connection and motivation.

To best serve its students and families, the center partners with a number of community organizations. Three times a year, Mercy College brings a medical van and medical students to the school for free health screenings, while children receive free dental screenings from Columbia Dental Van and vision screenings and eyewear from Optical Academy. Sharon Baptist also encourages the involvement of fathers in their children’s education through its partnership with Fathers 4 Progress, Inc., which provides individual counseling and skills training to help fathers develop healthy relationships with their children.

Sharon Baptist Head Start conducts all communication in the family’s preferred language, providing an interpreter when the staff does not speak the language. Committed to supporting the whole family, the center offers after-school programming for teenagers, as well as nutrition and cooking classes and ZOOM fitness sessions.
