A skilled project manager with over fifteen years of automotive industry experience, Sharon C. Bommer expects to receive her Ph.D. in engineering in 2015 from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Sharon C. Bommer has undertaken her doctoral studies since the receipt of a master’s degree in industrial engineering from WSU in 2013. In her master’s thesis, she examined how multi-modal communications imposed mental workload on operators of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
In conjunction with her study of UAVs for her thesis, Sharon Claxton Bommer currently studies remotely piloted aircraft such as UAVs and their associated control stations. She receives support for her research from the Air Force Research Laboratory at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University Research Institute.
Before entering the Ph.D. program at WSU, Sharon Bommer served as a plant manager at Benteler Automotive, a components supplier to automobile manufacturers such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz. In this position, she held responsibility for over 250 employees. In this role, she realized major reductions in welding defects, achieved millions of dollars in cost savings, and improved customer relationships.
