Having received several high caliber research grants, Columbia University Political Science Professor Sharyn L. O’Halloran was featured in published works for The University of Michigan Press and the Russell Sage Foundation. In 2007, Sharyn O’Halloran received the Russell Sage Foundation’s Politics of Inequality Grant. Prior to being honored with this grant, Sharyn O’Halloran had also received a Visiting Scholars Fellowship and Presidential Research Grant from the Russell Sage Foundation.

Additionally, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching awarded her a grant and a Scholars Award, she earned The Pew Charitable Trusts research grant, and several awards from the National Science Foundation. In 2009, Sharyn O’Halloran was named one of the Top 100 Irish Educators, and four years prior, she garnered the Decade of Behavioral Research Award.

Sharyn O’Halloran splits her time between teaching political science, lecturing at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and being a mother. She also finds time to continue her political and social behavioral research and run in marathons. Her profession has lent itself to several media appearances, including on Lou Dobbs’ program on CNN, National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, The Daily Show with John Stewart, and features in both The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.

As an author, Sharyn O’Halloran has collaborated on such works as Financial Regulation: The Political Economy of Government, Business, and Law, “Measuring the Electoral and Policy Impact of Majority-Minority Voting Districts,” and “The Non-Delegation Doctrine and Separate Powers: A Political Science Approach.” Additionally, Sharyn O’Halloran wrote an academic book on her own entitled Politics, Process, and American Trade Policy in 1994.

Sharyn O’Halloran studied at the University of California’s San Diego campus, minoring in Spanish literature while majoring in economics and political science. She earned her B.A. with honors and, after rigorous study, left the University with a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Political Science.
