Shawn Bernard

Shawn Bernard is a passionate Special Education educator at heart, yet serves as the Special Education Coordinator at Anchorage School District in Anchorage, Alaska.

Shawn’s main responsibilities includes overseeing Speech and Language Pathologists, Speech Implementors, Speech TAs, Hard of Hearing and Audiology staff, and Assistive Technology Staff. He also is a Special Education Department contact for elementary schools to received additional guidance and support.

Shawn received his Masters in Educational Leadership at the University of Alaska- Southeast. His undergrad program was from Grand Valley State University where he attained a Major is Psychology/ Special Education with an Elementary Distributed Minor with endorsements in Cognitive Impairments and Emotional Disturbance and completed coursework for certification of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Shawn is also an independent contractor for special educational topics through his company, S. Bernard Consulting. He has presented locally, at a state level, and national level on various topics- IEP Facilitation, iDevices in the classroom (and catered topics).

In his [lack of] spare time, Shawn is an Adjunct Professor with the University of Alaska- Special Education Department through distance learning courses.
