Shawn Cabbagestalk is a multi-skilled journalist based in Augusta, Georgia/Aiken, South Carolina. Shawn currently anchors and produces the weekend ‘Good Morning Augusta on WJBF NewsChannel 6’. He’s also the Aiken Bureau Chief. As the lead Aiken-based South Carolina reporter for WJBF, he primarily covers stories impacting the seven South Carolina counties that make up the Augusta, Ga./Aiken, S.C. viewing area (Aiken, Edgefield, McCormick, Saluda, Bamberg, Barnwell, and Allendale Counties.)
Over a career that has spanned more than a decade, Shawn has helped shape coverage of national headline-making stories in the Charleston market including the Charleston Church Shooting, the Walter Scott case, as well as Hurricane Matthew.
At WCBD-TV, Shawn fulfilled just about every responsibility in the newsroom. He started as a production technician, then was promoted to photojournalist, producer, assignment editor, and finally digital content manager.
As a photojournalist, Shawn received a South Carolina Broadcasters Association scholarship to attend a week-long seminar for television reporters at the Poynter Institute of Media Studies in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was the only photographer in a room of reporters and anchors from newsrooms worldwide learning better storytelling techniques and how to expand viewer reach with emerging technology.
Being diverse, Shawn has print and multimedia skills as well after serving as a freelance web editor at his hometown newspaper, The Manning Times.
Shawn also had the opportunity to work in radio at WXST, Star 99.7. There, he learned the inner workings of the radio business after training with one of the most identifiable voices in the urban adult contemporary genre in the Charleston, South Carolina market, Tessa Spencer-Adams.
Shawn majored in Broadcast Journalism and Sociology at the University of South Carolina. During his time at USC, Shawn received his start in broadcast television working as a master control operator at WBHQ-TV, the former WB television station in the Columbia area.
