Dr. Carbonell endured an education spanning nearly 3 decades (including two doctoral degrees and two postdoctoral fellowships!) with a vision of becoming a world leader in academic neurosurgery. However, in 2009, he dropped out of his residency program to pursue a biomedical hunch that he felt would significantly advance medicine beyond the scalpel. That hunch is now the basis of several exciting new medicines in development at his biotech startup, OncoSynergy, founded in 2011 to address glioblastoma and other rare and aggressive cancers.
