I am a Mac trouble-solver with 10 years cajoling Mac/Unix/Windows/Websites/networks to behave as they should in the scientific world (EPFL - Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, WHO - World Health Organization) and private-consulting. I have a passion for Internet communications with a strong social media twist, data-mining (PostgreSQL/MySQL), emerging/under-exploited Web2.0 services (think ITTT, Buffer, OpenID, Google Fusion Tables and Maps), content-management systems (think Wordpress, Dokuwiki) and security (think Maltego). I've also built a few simple iPhone apps. Amongst my achievements, I've erected a 20'000 medical-file online database used in over 5 countries in 4 languages (JAMAL publication), reparametrized a key research weather-simulator by data-mining 10'000 reference stations with automated unix-scripting to feed a web-based climate-diagram Google-maps/fusion-table mashup (CLIMAP), and influenced a major Swiss voting event by publishing an iPhone app (RenteCalc). While doing my PhD I co-authored a patent for real-time monitoring of distributed-applications, telecommunications and databases (Patent6611955). I currently work at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), as an IT troubleshooter, researcher, and database admin. I am helping paleo-climatologists build a European database of pollen analysis (arve.epfl.ch) and have also recently joined a group of organic molecular and macromolecular materials scientists to apply my trouble-shooting, database, and web skills (lmom.epfl.ch). Tell me about your projects and how I might help by connecting through Twitter, @drkdev, or through my website (shawnkdev.ch).
