Shawn Rana is a seasoned professional with 36 years of experience leading large-scale projects in the energy and chemical sectors, with a focus on hydrogen and ammonia. He has consistently delivered results that exceed financial goals while supporting long-term business growth. His leadership includes building teams committed to safety, regulatory compliance, environmental responsibility, and operational performance. He is among the few in the industry to have both directed major hydrogen and ammonia projects and managed the most extensive ammonia production facilities in the United States.

Shawn is known for maintaining strong industry relationships and promoting collaboration to achieve shared objectives. His experience covers traditional, blue, and green hydrogen, as well as ammonia and its derivatives. He played a key role in bringing together two nitric acid producer groups into a single conference that continues to this day. He also led the first greenfield ammonia and urea project in the U.S. in 25 years, as well as the first ammonia project in Nebraska since the 1970s.

Since 1998, he has supported STEM education by organizing student career days and continues this work in Nebraska.

Shawn's professional background includes all stages of project development, from early planning to full operations. He has provided leadership in areas such as technology selection, power purchase agreements, marketing, off-take, EPC contracts, and construction management. His last four projects, each valued between $100 million and $3 billion, were focused on hydrogen and ammonia and are all fully operational. These include a fully green ammonia plant and one of the world’s largest blue hydrogen and ammonia facilities.

As Project Director, he led a zero-carbon hydrogen and ammonia project, managing feasibility studies, permitting, renewable electricity sourcing, and budgeting. The project involved 400 workers and had an overall cost approaching $400 million. As President of a Nebraska-based company, he initiated and managed a $100 million greenfield ammonia project, overseeing multiple departments and securing vital agreements and incentives. He also led a $3 billion construction project and held senior leadership roles in related industries.

Shawn Rana continues to drive progress in clean ammonia and energy development across North America through his experience, leadership, and commitment to innovation.
