Steven Shehori

Writer in Los Angeles, California

Steven Shehori (comedy reel here) is a Los Angeles-based comedy writer, producer, and performer, a 3-time Gemini Award loser, and a 3-time Canadian Comedy Award winner. He’s actually been nominated for 12 Canadian Comedy Awards, so he’s happy he finally won a couple, dammit.

Steven has written for The A.V. Club, Vulture, New York Magazine, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Huffpost, specializing in pop culture, music, film, politics, comedy pieces, and celebrity interviews. Popular interviews include Paul Giamatti, Amy Schumer, and The Kids in the Hall. In 2011, Steven made headlines for securing the first post-series finale interview from Lost creator Damon Lindelof, where instead of discussing the show, the two men wrote out a beat-by-beat alternate version of Sex and the City 2.

Shortly afterwards, Steven helped develop the acclaimed CW comedy series Backpackers, and wrote and directed the comedic short film The Hills After Show Spinoffs starring Schitt's Creek creator Dan Levy.

Steven was a producer for Just For Laughs' Sarah Silverman & Friends, featuring comedy legends Sarah Silverman, John Mulaney, and David Cross. After 10 years as a senior news and comedy writer for Naked Newsand starring in the 2013 Hulu documentary series Naked News Uncovered (clip here), Steven served as a senior writer for Canada's late night talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and 11 national award shows. From 2012 to 2015, he wrote for Entertainment Tonight.

In 2019, he was hired as a senior comedy writer for Macaulay Culkin's satire site Bunny Ears, and hosted the Dash Radio comedy shows With the Beatles and Classic Rock, Classic Comedy.

Steven has made appearances as an actor and pop culture commentator on several national Canadian television programs, and he has produced over 100 live comedy shows, including The Shehori Brothers' Character Night (the longest-running production in the history of The Second City Toronto), and An Awkward Evening With Martin & Johnson, which featured the creators of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone. Steven has written, directed, and produced five full-length comedy theater productions to date, with each nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award.
