Sheikh Thamer bin Hamad Al Thani

Director

I serve as the Director of the International Media Office (IMO) for the State of Qatar, a role entrusted to me in March 2023 under Amiri Decision No. 22 of 2023. In this position, I lead the country’s global media communication efforts—strengthening Qatar’s presence on the world stage, guiding strategic engagement with international media, and supporting government entities in their public diplomacy initiatives.

My career has been rooted in advancing Qatar’s voice internationally. Before joining the IMO, I worked as Deputy Director at the Government Communications Office (GCO), where I directed international media operations and key communication strategies. Prior to that, I served as Qatar’s Media Attaché in the United Kingdom, helping build strong relationships with media organizations across Europe and enhancing the country’s global narrative.

Earlier in my professional journey, I held various roles within the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. There, I led initiatives focused on digital civic engagement, youth empowerment, and data-driven media insights—projects that strengthened Qatar’s digital communication ecosystem.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media Studies from Northwestern University in Qatar. Throughout my career, I have remained dedicated to promoting meaningful dialogue, fostering international understanding, and supporting innovative approaches to communication on behalf of the State of Qatar.
