Shelagh Saenz

Shelagh Saenz has spent the past nineteen years as the director of career development at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Throughout this time, Shelagh Saenz has overseen multiple programs focused on diversity and increasing student engagement with her department’s services.
Alongside student engagement, these initiatives have included employer outreach, the development of workshops, and other areas. The programs have had an impact on overall engagement, with employer visits rising by 280 percent during her tenure. In her first five years in the position, student engagement increased by 125 percent.
For much of this time, Ms. Saenz has been involved in multiple professional organizations, such as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Knowledge Community and Inclusion, Diversity, Accessibility, and Equity Committee. The latter of these, which she has chaired, has issued her awards for her diversity initiatives on-campus.
An Eastern Michigan University alumnus, Shelagh Saenz earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling in 2003. She also has a bachelor of arts in English from Albion College.
