Shelby Chase
Dear Shelby,
10 years old: you're going to get glasses. you have no choice, and you might hate them, but be thankful that you are given a second chance to see. plus, one day you won't even have to wear them anymore. and one day, glasses will be cool!
11 years old: There's a lot of firsts for you during eleven. First time having braces, first time being congratulated for becoming a woman, and most of all, first boyfriend. You think you're in love, but there is such thing as being too young to understand love. Your very first kiss together will be at GlowBowl. And no, kissing a boy doesn't get you pregnant.
12 years old: You will never forget this day. Second hour, computer class. School went on lockdown, no one was allowed in or out. This day changed America and even the whole world forever. Those two tall towers you saw during your trip to New York City are no longer there.
13 years old: braces, acne, glasses, a "I cut my own bangs" haircut, 20-year old built body and messed up makeup. There is nothing else to say other than awkward stage. It'll get better from here. Don't get hurt when nobody likes you, because someone will one day, I promise.
14 years old: I wish I could take some of these moments away and show you that you didn't need to do this to yourself. You are beautiful as you are, and treating your body this way is not healthy. Keep your head up and stay strong. Don't let others words and choices make you feel as if you need to do the same to yourself.
15 years old: You're a high-schooler, now! This is such a weird and fun year for you. You're going to make the JV pom team, meet a boy (that you also think you love - but again, you don't); snowboard with friends every weekend, and even test out something that grows out of the ground. Thankfully you have your drivers permit, but not on this night. You'll find out why.
