Hello and welcome.
My name is Shelby Gemmen. If you’re reading this, chances are that you stumbled upon my blog and ‘about me’ page. So, how about I tell you a little bit more about myself? I was raised in the Christian faith and found myself praying often times… partly because of circumstantial difficulties and partly because of my uncertainty of faith. As a result, I found myself taking an interest in apologetics. I wanted to know if the claims that I heard preached from the pulpit were true. Was the Bible truly the Word of God? Did Jesus really die on a cross and resurrect from the dead? Were miracles actually performed in the first century church? Events like the Apostle Paul getting bit by a snake and living, Jesus turning water into wine, and healing a paralytic seemed larger than life to me at times. I was a doubter of the truth claims of the Bible, so I began my search for the truth.
My journey started by reading. Lots of reading. The classics, the Bible, and Philosophy took up most of my time. To be sure, anyone person could spend their life reading and looking for God and remain in a state of confusion, unless they are introduced to Scripture. In 2 Peter 1:20b-21 it says, “that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. The Bible was written by men, but also the providential guidance from God.
In 1 Corinthians 15, the apostle Paul explains that Jesus appeared before 500 people with His resurrected body. Much more could be said in defense of the resurrection, the authority of Scripture, and supernatural miracles in the Bible. However, for times sake, I will refer you to my blog and welcome you to read anything that you desire too. Most of the content is writings from the education that I received. I graduated Kuyper College in 2010 with a B.S. in Pre-Seminary Studies and Bible Theology. From there, I went onto Calvin Theological Seminary and graduated from the Masters of Divinity program in 2014. I am also completing a Masters of Systematic theology to learn more about the doctrines that Scripture teaches. I hope that my blog can be a safe place for those outside of the faith to explore, ask questions, and challenge the Christian faith.
