Student in Amherst, Massachusetts

I am a recent graduate from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and hold a BS in psychology. I am a goal-oriented person who has experience in customer service, volunteering, and academic travel abroad which gives me a fresh take on ideas and situations. I have proven experience dealing with someone who has ADHD, knows what their individual experience is pertaining to their mental health, and appreciate their interpretation of the world.

Communication skills are a skill to have as an aspiring psychiatrist, or anyone in the health field. Psychiatrists as well as other medical employees need to effectively communicate with their patients and family members about what is happening throughout the process of counseling or diagnosing. Family members provide perspectives on issues that the health care provider may not have been aware of, or a new perspective. Also, I will need to communicate to other health care professionals to provide the proper treatment, or create a treatment plan for patients. I will also need to take notes throughout these sessions to provide written communication for future reference in the patients file.
