Shelby Luttman
Student and Development Assistant in Boone, North Carolina
Shelby Luttman has a passion for studying Communication. Her wide range of experience in the field allows her to understand campaigns from multiple angles. Her interest in journalism and public relations feeds her dedication for working with nonprofits, specifically those battling food and housing insecurity. Using her skills to help people gain access to resources they need is her primary goal.
Her experience working with Appalachian State Athletics has developed her problem-solving skills and time management. Shelby also serves as the Vice President of Administration for Lutheran Students of Appalachian and is a teaching assistant for an introductory journalism course.
She is assisting Dr. Gregory Perreault in research exploring, from a metajournalistic point-of-view, the perceived ethicality of the White House Press Correspondents Dinner. She specifically has been working on finding trends in the long-form interviews with about 40 journalists and writing the Humor and News section of the literature review.
Shelby will graduate from Appalachian State University in May 2019 with a Bachelor degree in Public Relations Communication. Her plan is to pursue graduate school in the Communication field.
