Shelley Behr MSW, RSW is a therapist who provides committed, compassionate and non-judgemental support to people facing life challenges. Since 1998, she has been counselling individuals, couples and families in her private practice located in Richmond, B.C.
Shelley’s training and experience encompass a range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, phobias, relationship issues, adolescent/child issues, separation and divorce, grief, loss and life transitions. Shelley is also a member of the Collaborative Divorce Association of Vancouver.
As a divorce coach and child specialist, Shelley assists parents in understanding the impact of divorce on their children at all developmental ages, and guides parents to develop a customized parenting plan that accounts for the children’s thoughts and feelings. She is skilled as an art and play therapist and works with children of all ages in the process of divorce and separation. Shelley provides a platform for parents to discuss the early stages of separation and divorce including telling the children about the divorce, managing the stages of grief and loss, and providing ongoing support for the family as they move through the collaborative process.
Shelley’s approach to therapy is solution-focused. She works with clients to identify their core issues and tries to understand the depth of their life experiences so that she can help them to create a guided goal-centred path.
A graduate of the University of British Columbia Psychology, Shelley went on to obtain a Master of Social Work from Wurzweiler School of Social Work in New York in 1998.
