Shelley Mesch
Student and Journalist in Chicago, Illinois
I, Shelley K. Mesch, want to write for you. Since the age of thirteen, I wanted to be a reporter. Through high school I did everything to advance my career, which included the start of a school newsletter that eventually flopped. In college, I joined the news team at the radio station and occasion wrote for the school paper. Because of my work and dedication, I can say I am an award-winning student journalist.
At DePaul, I focused on my career as a journalist, but I also made sure I enjoyed my time in undergrad. As a swing dancer, attending social dances was the best way to occupy my free time. It’s a great way to stay active and interact with people. Through swing dance workshops and events, I traveled around the midwest and met other people who had a hobby of dance.
While commuting to and from DePaul’s two campuses in Chicago, I can be found with headphones in on the CTA. I’m either listening to indie music, the Hamilton soundtrack or podcasts like This American Life or Stuff You Missed in History Class. On the occasional weekend, I go home to Rockford, Ill. to visit my old haunts and reconnect with old friends.
I cultivate a wide array of interests, and this is why I would be an excellent asset to your newsroom. I’m well-versed in current events on the local, national and world levels, and I’m trained in a varying range of styles including broadcast, online, feature and straight news. My commitment to journalistic integrity and excellence will be seen in whatever newsroom I work in, and I cannot wait to write for your publication.
