Shemaiah Wooden

Hi, my name is Shemaiah Wooden, pronounced she-ma-ya.

I am currently a Pre-Nursing student, applying to the program this semester, and I plan to graduate spring semester of 2018. Upon graduation I plan to continue my education and pursue a degree as a Nurse Practitioner.

On my free time, I enjoy physical activities such as soccer and hiking, two of my favorite outdoor activities. The longest distance I've hiked was a 6 mile trail called Harney's Peak in Black Hill National Forest, the highest natural point in South Dakota. It was cold, windy, rigid on Harney's Peak but the view, from where we stood, was empowering and breathtaking; looking over the edge got me goosebumps.

I love to watch Korean dramas and Japanese animes during short breaks, because finishing the series is a must when starting a show. I am currently into Fairy Tale and Attack on Titan the most anticipated shows I've come across with intriguing story plots and endearing characters that keeps the viewers captivated. During the long breaks after the semester has come to goodbye, I enjoy traveling whether it be on a road-trip or a plane to another country. I love waking up to different sceneries as where I'm from, I was surrounded by mountains, hills, and unpaved roads.

I work for the Mentoring Program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and I am very excited to be working with the incoming proteges that the spring semester has to offer. The past semester ,as a first time mentor, has helped me to be more prepared and has set attainable expectations from myself and my proteges.
