Mother, Writer, and Consultant in Cameron, North Carolina
Hi, I’m Sherica. I’m a mother and a wife living in Cameron, North Carolina. I am a fan of reading, cycling, and writing. I’m also interested in education, advocacy, and fitness. I created this page to explain why I have a court case document pinned to my name on various websites. My husband and I were victims of police misconduct at McGuire Air Force Base, NJ by an US Air Force Security Officer (military policeman). We tried to get the matter thoroughly investigated on base at the lowest level to no avail. Reason being the officer created a fabricated citation against me and my husband. In order to address the fabricated citation we had to attend the McGuire Air Force Base/ Fort Dix NJ court. The fabricated citation was dismissed but our civil rights were violated and we wanted to bring attention to this matter because we both are law abiding citizens, U.S. Army Veterans who did not deserve to be treated like that. Moreover, we contacted the IG office and it was further investigated by the US Air Force Inspecter General. After the incident was investigated by the Inspector General the Airman (police man) was disciplined and the police reporting system was updated to report the fabricated citation as being dismissed and it has the IG report findings attached to it. It is unfortunate that this occurred and I hope that whoever views the case documents are able to look past it and take an active interest in supporting people who experience police misconduct and/or police brutality by advocating for criminal justice reform and report wrongdoings. In closing, that incident has not hindered me in anything; I wanted to share my truth on the World Wide Web. Thank you for being empathetic and supportive. God Bless You.
Sincerely,
Sherica A. Heardvelez, M.A.
