Shermaine Tay

Student in Singapore

An opportunist and realist, Shermaine is always ready to take on new challenges and thrive to overcome them. She is constantly seeking improvements in herself, learning on her own, asking for advices and willing to go out of her comfort zone to experience new things.

As a student in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Shermaine was dedicated in performing well in her studies and actively participating in co-curriculum activities. In the Taekwondo Club, she has competed in numerous national competitions; she was also the Logistics Head for a year. As a member of The Sandbox, she advocates for innovation. Now, Shermaine is taking Muay Thai lessons as a form of recreation.

During the school holidays, she would work to develop herself further as an individual. To date, she has experience in the Finance and Sales departments. She has taught Taekwondo and worked at the Ministry of Manpower too.

Sometimes, Shermaine gets chided by her friends for 'working too hard'!

Not to worry, the highly-driven Shermaine takes respite with friends, family and birds. Yes, BIRDS. Shermaine has a passion for the avian species and currently has four Conures as pets. During her free time, she would draw or crochet them. She is also a part-timer pet-sitter for birds on Pawshake. Her love for birds doesn't end. Once, Shermaine even volunteered at ACRES hoping to interact with birds but she ended up carrying 83 tortoises to and fro instead and only managed to see the typical birds in Singapore at the santuary — mynahs, crows and pigeons.

Shermaine is currently awaiting her results for university applications.
