Who knew that after all these years that I would realize that my true path in life was in teaching. After working for several years as a Case Manager for children with ABI and then staying home to raise my children I have embarked on a teaching career that continues to be a journey. In 1990 I received my B.Sc. in Biology from Brock University. In 2011 I received my teaching degree. Since that time I have continued my education taking Special Education Part 1, Kindergarten Part 1, Intermediate-Science and now Information and Computer Technology Part 1. I am currently teaching Primary Science which I adore and look forward to what the future has in store for me.
As an aspiring "connected" educator I believe in the importance of teaching 21st century skills via the authentic use of technology and social media such as Web 2.0 tools, Twitter Chats, Blogs etc, to connect and engage teachers, students and the global community on a variety of levels. These tools continue to help us be two-way communicators and model the importance of collaboration and critical thinking to our students. Collaborating with global educators and developing your own personal learning network allows for ongoing and dynamic professional growth. Being open to the use of a variety of teaching and learning techniques helps us grow as educators and provides a variety of opportunities for all of our students to learn and connect within a relevant and current realm.
