Sheryl Lee
Sheryl Lee is a unique individual with a multi-faceted career as an award-winning pianist, educator and well-respected arts administrator in the cultural management sector.
Previously Executive Director of Programming at Haw Par Music Foundation Limited, a non-profit organization that managed the historic Haw Par Mansion into Haw Par Music, a centre for cross-cultural exchange through music, heritage and arts, with a social initiative. Current she is leading the restructuring of The Fringe Club in Central.
Other positions held include General Manager of the Far East subsidiary of Naxos Music Group, the world’s leading classical music label and distributor; Artistic Development Manager at Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Marketing Director at Carl Fischer Music Publishing in New York.
Current Board Chairman of Music Children Foundation, a charitable organization with a social mission that provides free music education to underprivileged families; Council Member of the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts; Member of Wan Chai District Youth Committee and Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music & Dance Fund Awardees Association.
Sheryl began her piano studies at the age of four with Katherine Lu and subsequently with Eleanor Wong at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She gave her professional debut with Utah Symphony under the baton of Joseph Silverstein at age 13 and was admitted to the Juilliard School Pre-College Program shortly thereafter. At the invitation of the late Maria Curcio, last pupil of legendary pianist Artur Schnabel, Sheryl moved to study with her in London. She received her formal education at New York University and Yale University under the tutelage of Peter Frankl with the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund.
Past performances include Bratislava Chamber Orchestra (Austria), Maverick Concert in New York (USA), Sarasota Music Festival (USA), Aspen Music Festival (USA), Centre d’Arts Orford (Canada) and Banff Music Centre (Canada). She previously taught as Adjunct Faculty of Piano at New York University; Artist Faculty at New York Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music Program; The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York Artist-in-Residence at Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2015-16 and currently as Honorary Artist-In-Residence at Education University of Hong Kong from 2021-23 and Executive Mentor at City University of Hong Kong.
