William Shields
Executive Committed to Community in Southborough, Massachusetts
A recipient of an MBA from the University of Connecticut, William Shields balances a distinguished career in the field of finance with a commitment to his Southborough, Massachusetts community. A longtime volunteer, he has donated his time and effort to local soup kitchens and food pantries for nearly 30 years. William Shields also is a youth sports coach who has coached basketball, soccer, football and baseball for more than a decade and served as a coordinator of the youth basketball program for the town of Southborough for five seasons.
Professionally, William Shields began his career in 1995 as an employee of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac). In 1998 he joined Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Boston, Massachusetts, as a portfolio manager, a role in which he oversaw a portfolio of commercial mortgage loans totaling $169 million. He built upon this experience in his next position as an acquisitions analyst with Davis Marcus Partners, where he helped secure over $300 million in commercial real estate development financing.
Mr. Shields draws upon this background in his current position as an assistant vice president with John Hancock, a Boston-based affiliate of Manulife Financial. Over the past 15 years, he has consistently been ranked as one of the company’s leading investment officers for loan production volume and stands out for his role in closing the largest commercial mortgage loan in Manulife Financial history.
