Shih-wei Wu

Shih-wei “Willie” Wu (吳士瑋) is a Los Angeles based composer-performer for the Japanese taiko. He performs with Taiko Center of Los Angeles, and serves as the Artistic Director of the ensemble.

Wu is active in ensembles as collaborator and leader. He has appeared in the music video, “Princess of China” with Rihanna and Chris Martin (Cold Play). He has shared stage with noted musician such as Yellow Magic Orchestra and Yoko Ono.

Described as a ‘deeply passionate drummer” by Los Angeles Times blog, Wu continues to explore the intercultural world of taiko by integrating Western classical music and choreography into his work. He writes music for chamber performance, staged concert performance, and improvisors.

Wu completed in his master of fine art in music at University of California, Irvine.
