Shiitu Abubakar

Shiitu Abubakar is a Nigerian academic and researcher from Gwadabawa Local Government Area in Sokoto State. His upbringing in this culturally rich region has deeply influenced his values and aspirations.

He began his education at Sultan Tambari Model Primary School (1998–2001) and continued at Government Body Primary School, Isa (2001–2003). For his secondary education, he attended Government Day Secondary School, Gwadabawa (2003–2009), where he earned both WAEC/SSCE and NECO SSCE qualifications.

Shiitu holds a B.Sc. in Physics from Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto (2013). He has supplemented his academic training with several diplomas, including:

Diploma in Computer Proficiency (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife)

Professional Diploma in Education (Ahmadu Bello University)

Diploma in Computer Studies (Rainbow Computer Institute, affiliated with UDUS)

Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Geophysics at Usmanu Danfodio University.

Shiitu’s work experience spans several sectors. He worked as a Technical Assistance Mechanic at Gwadabawa LGA Council (2010–2016), completed industrial training at the Sokoto State Ministry for Rural Development (2012), and served as Head of Fisheries at SG Adiya Farms (2016). He also worked as an Education Officer at the Ministry of Science and Technology, Sokoto (2016), and transitioned into academia as a Lecturer at Shehu Shagari College/University of Education from 2016 to the present. Additionally, he has served as a Presiding Officer in Nigeria’s general elections (2011, 2015, 2019, 2023) and as an NGO field worker for Agromall Discovery (2018).

During his NYSC in Osun State (2015–2016), he was active in community service, including roles in the Muslim Corpers Association and the NYSC Road Safety Club.

Shiitu has held several leadership positions, such as Financial Secretary and later President of the Gwadabawa Students Union at UDUS (2009–2014), as well as community leadership roles like Chairman of Unity and Justice Group and Filin Rasha Youth Development.

He is a passionate football fan and supports FC Barcelona.

His research focuses on thin film technology and gravity survey, with current studies exploring satellite gravity data analysis for subsurface geological mapping in the Sokoto Basin.
