Student in Luquillo, Puerto Rico
Hello and welcome to my page. My name is Shirley Vélez and I am a student at the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao studying Chemical Technology. My interest in the fields of science has been present ever since I was a child as I would always wondered how the world around me worked and why certain things were as they were. My particular interest in Chemistry grew in the eleventh grade when I took my first Chemistry class and learned new things. I was so interested in learning more I decided to pursue my career in the field of Chemistry. Currently I am in my last semester of my associate's degree and throughout the two years I have spent studying in the field of Chemistry I have gained many skills, such as laboratory techniques which include titrating, pipetting and filtration. I also am skilled in the different kinds of chromatography such as Thin Layer Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, amongst others. Other skills inculde using excel to graph data, powerpoint as well as Word.
I would like to use all the skills and knowledge I have gained throughout these two years of studies to work in the industry and gain experience as well as continue my studies and pursue a bachelor's degree in Industrial Chemistry. My dream is to become a pharmacist and so I will work hard to achieve my goals.
