Laura at The Shorehouse

I was born on an island* which is probably where my love for the sea comes from. I've also loved music and art for as long as I can remember. My first concert was Elvis Presley.**

As a public relations/marketing communications professional I've worked with everyone from school principals to Playmates. I enjoy being creative and uncovering unique ways to position products, missions, services, and events.

After buying a home in a historic beach town about five years ago, my passion for home décor on a budget kicked up a notch. I scoured flea markets, yard sales, thrift stores, and people's trash (yes) finding a fun, cost-conscious, and environmentally friendly way to furnish the home known affectionately as the shorehouse.

I started a blog called Shorehouse Chic to document the house's progress and some of my thrifting adventures. I had so much fun, met amazing bloggers, got to take others on scavenging adventures, and even landed a few small decorating gigs. Then life got in the way, but I'm determined to return to the world of blogging soon! In the meantime, I'd love for you to visit the archives at

*OK, Staten Island. But it counts.

** I was in utero. Elvis was in leather. At the Las Vegas Hilton.
