Shyam Venkat
During his tenure at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Shyam Venkat has advised a variety of clients in the area of risk management. Utilizing his expertise in risk management and other aspects of financial management, Mr. Venkat has worked with financial services institutions on matters of risk management strategy, corporate governance and organizational design, risk appetite and policy, risk measurement models, risk information systems, and data infrastructure. In addition to working with global, national, and regional banks, he has also worked with insurance companies, pension funds, asset managers, thrift institutions, government-sponsored enterprises, and mortgage banks. Mr. Venkat has assessed and implemented Basel II, Basel III, and Solvency II readiness initiatives for banks and insurance companies. While working with Fortune 500 companies, Shyam Venkat has advised his clients on a range of corporate treasury-related matters, including currency and commodity risk management, cash management, and bank transaction services. While working with energy companies, Mr. Venkat assisted with setting up risk management practices for dealing with the trading power and gas in the wholesale and retail markets. He also helped companies to establish real option approaches to evaluate strategic business decisions relating to management, acquisition and divestiture of generation, and transmission assets. Shyam Venkat began his career at A.F. Ferguson & Co., an accounting firm, in that firm's office in Mumbai, India, in 1982. A year later, he relocated to the United States to pursue a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University. After graduating in 1985, Mr. Venkat accepted a position at PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York. Mr. Venkat quickly moved up the ranks until he was admitted in 1997 to the firm's partnership as a Principal. His tenure at PricewaterhouseCoopers was briefly interrupted by a short stint at First Manhattan Consulting Group, where he worked as a Senior Consultant during 1994 to 1995. Shyam Venkat resides in Connecticut. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, traveling, and playing golf.
