I was born in Florence, South Carolina. I understand completely if you do not know where this town is. In Florence, there is not much to do. There is a movie theatre, a mall and a lot of land on the outskirts. My family moved from Florence when I was about three, but it is still a huge part of my life. It is where my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins live. It is where I spent every Christmas. And it is where I learned to do one of my favorite things in the world --- hunt.

My entire extended family grew up around hunting, and I am no exception. I first learned how to shoot a bow at the young age of four and learned how to shoot a rifle at seven years old. This may seem young (and you may be right) but it is something that my family has done for generations.

My father was the person who taught me how to hunt. He taught me how to show appreciation to the animal you are hunting, how to be patient, and how to thank God for every opportunity presented. Hunting taught me how to care for the planet and find beauty in it. I recall an instance where I was alone in a tree stand. It was completely dark when I got there. And then slowly, I saw the sun creeping up and bringing life to the woods around me. At this moment, I felt at peace.

I will never forget the valuable lessons I learned from hunting those woods, and I cannot wait to continue with this tradition in my future family.
