Descended from Gold Mountain pioneers, COPE city council candidate Sid CHOW TAN was born in Hoy Ping, China. A baby immigrant, his papers indicated he was his paternal grandmother’s son – a “paper son.” The two joined Sid’s grandfather under family unification in Battleford, Saskatchewan. Later a “paper brother” arrived. Graduating from the University of Calgary, Sid moved to Vancouver nearly 40-years ago. Best known for his decades work for redress of the Chinese head tax/exclusion, since 1994 he has volunteer produced a weekly community television program currently named ACCESS Community Television.
