I come from the beautiful Kashmir valley in India, where my family lived for decades. When I was nine years old, militant terrorism broke out in our city, and as the danger grew, my family was forced to leave the city and we stayed in a refugee camp for a year.
That is how I came to learn the value of freedom, peace, and community.
My carefree childhood ended early, but the experience opened my eyes. Wherever I go, I join the community there. I pursue new friendships, and I have a high tolerance for differing opinions.
I have always been a dreamer, and being an engineer helps me think about my ideas realistically.
Today, living in the United States, I am actively involved with my community. I am member of Kashmiri Overseas Association, where we try to raise awareness about the violence that continues in Kashmir and raise money to educate children from low-income households.
I am inquisitive and always trying to broaden my horizons. Working at technology giant Dell piqued my interest in the business side of things, and I now plan to pursue an MBA. My goal as a business professional and a human being is to change the world for the better.
