After my first StrengthsQuest Assessment one of my top five strengths was being futuristic. Someone that is futuristic can be describe as being inspired by the future and what could be. They use their positive outlook to inspire others as well. I definitely enjoyed this element of EHE 1100 because it just reassured me that I am ready for to be on my own and am on the right track for my career. By being futuristic I am able to look forward with a positive attitude for the future. This ties in with me also having a strong belief strength. I definitely think that I am setting myself up well for the future and because I am futuristic I am able to make sure I am doing everything I can to be successful and making sure I am prepared.

Another element I found helpful this semester was the Curriculum Plan activities. In this activity we spend a week or two getting ourselves ready for the next year and a half. I found this helpful because we had an academic advisor there to help us make sure that we were taking all the right classes in the right order and that we would be set up to be successful. By having a set time of the week to sit down and look at classes and determine what I need to get done before I apply to my major I felt less stressed when it came time for scheduling. Now I know to start early looking for classes and when each class is offered so you don’t get stuck.

Lessons from a first year buckeye was also another very useful element. In this activity, each individual student wrote about 5 different things they wish that would have known. Although it doesn’t really help me now of my future because I have already been through my first semester but it is going to help future students. One thing I wrote that I wish I knew was to work ahead. You never know when something random is going to pop up or you get sick or an assignment might take you longer than expected and then everything just piles up on you. It is important to stay on top of your work because college is known to throw curve balls and it is a lot harder to say no to going a homework assignment than going to get some ice cream or hit up to rec center with your friends. If I am able to tell other students things to look into, things to do, and things not to do I would love to because I wish I had someone or I wish I had taken more initiative before getting to college rather than learning everything all at once when I got to campus.
