Brad Franklin . Civil Rights Advocate for Mental Health Causes
Silenced No More Project . A mood disorder advocacy cause
A creative designer, product developer, mobile technology strategist (web / internet), I've been actively involved in civil rights advocacy for individuals with bipolar disorders since 1994. Growing up within the dynamics of an affected family unit, my life experience with treating a bipolar disorder, type 2, rapid cycling diagnosis dates back 30 years.
Personally involved as the plaintiff in a civil rights, bipolar disorder disability discrimination lawsuit against my previous employer of eleven years, a Fortune 500 company, I know first hand the battle and survival struggles individuals with this disorder may face. Jury trial, punitive damages to the jury, appealed to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, 14 year in litigation, I do not give up. I live my life as the “Man in the Arena”.
Individuals with physical neurobiological disorders (mental health conditions; biological brain disorders) unfortunately have much to go through in their journey to get help. Many times treating their mental health condition (biological brain disorder) is the least of one's problems.
As challenging and painful as it has been, having the double edge sword diagnosis of bipolar disorder type 2 rapid cycling has been both a gift and a curse. I would not be where I'm at today without these detours.
It's my sincere hope that through sharing my knowledge and life experience I can help others, help advocate for equality and lessen the shame and stigma surrounding being affected by these neurobiological, mental health disorders.
