Simon Jay

Writer, Director, and Actor in London, United Kingdom

I have been working as either a freelance writer, theatremaker, actor or public-speaker since graduating from Bournemouth University with a BA(Hons) in Screenwriting For Film and Television.

In 2010 I appeared on a Radio5Live Panel discussing M.P's first day in parliament. Discussing trustworthiness and fashion with amongst others Caroline Lucas and Quentin Letts.

I have written a book of non-fiction that deals with mental health, creativity and sexuality, that appeared on the amazon bestseller list upon its publication. I have given readings of this book at Durham University, SOAS, The RVT and KuBar.

Other publications I have written for include theatre and film reviews and features for Theatre & Performance including interviewing Tori Amos upon the release of the album based on her musical. I have written for other magazines including Meat and a semi-regular personal blog.

I have worked as a Script-Reader for The White Bear Theatre between 2011 and 2013, and under Artistic Director Michael Kingsbury, have developed and directed plays at that theatre and others including The Tempest, Is He A Bit Simon Jay? and Consenting Adults.

I have directed a dozen plays for stage, from classics to new writing, pantomimes to immersive theatre; my proudest achievements have been productions for charity, such as V-DAY's The Vagina Monologues, Terrance Higgin's Trusts Queer Macbeth and Universally Speaking for The UN Refugee Agency.

In 2015 I wrote a short feature Heavens To Betsy, starring Lorraine Chase and produced by Looking at You Productions.

In 2016 I wrote and performed Trumpageddon, an Edinburgh Fringe Sell-Out and a huge critical success.

I am available as a freelance theatremaker, performer, journalistic or creative writer, tutor or speaker on any subject outlined above. My rates are negotiable. If you have a particular enquiry don't hesitate to contact me.
