Sirel Mouchantaf is an engineering professional working in Fredericksburg, VA with over twenty years of experience in heavy civil and rail projects. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management (MSEM) from Syracuse University. The MSEM program helps working engineers and scientists become better managers as well as become prepared for increased responsibilities in management. The degree program provided Sirel with knowledge in management theory and practices, statistics, quality control, finance, economics, information/data management, and legal issues. With this specialized knowledge and training, Sirel has lead and developed the engineering and construction department at the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) for the past ten years.
While working for VRE, Sirel quickly rose through the ranks due to his ability to execute projects on time and under budget. His direct construction experience provides the added value of ensuring project constructability with minimal potential for contractor claims. Prior to joining the VRE, Sirel has worked in both the private and public sector leading and participating in major capital projects. Sirel is a licensed Professional Engineer in multiple states and a certified construction manager. Regulation and licensing in engineering is performed by the individual states and is only valid in the state it is granted. This process was created to protect the general public and ensure that the engineer is prepared to provide services.
In his spare time, Sirel enjoys spending time with his family and working on home improvement projects. Sirel is also a huge soccer fan and continues to be active in the sport with multiple leagues in the DC, Virginia and Maryland areas.
