Well, Howdy-Do!

Welcome to Affrilachia Mama...

I am D. M. "Sista' Joy" Foster, a bonified, "countrified," African-American Appalachian from the Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia.

I know, I know... You thought all "hillbillies" or Appalachians were white people, right?

Wrong!

That's the image often portrayed but so untrue!

Actually, African-Americans have been living in Appalachia since it was first settled and the Native Americans were forced off the land.

We've been here!

Our history and culture is a part of the region and we love the music, storytellin' and Bible Thumpin' too! That's why we've coined the phrase, Affrilachian...so you will know us as well.

An Appalachian storyteller, musician and writer, my one-woman show, "Affrilachia Mama" will bring you folk, country and mountain music, along with personal and folk stories to "tickle your funny bone, touch your heart and set your toes to tappin."

If you would like to know more, check out one of my stories on You Tube below and contact me. I'd be happy to converse with you. All of my shows can be modified to fit your audience!
