"Nothing in life worth having comes easy." That was the quote my mother said to me as I began my journey as an undergraduate student. These words served as a catalyst for a bright future; the phrase has helped propel me into the man that I am today.
As artists, we tend to let our work do the talking for us. Though I was very charsamatic and outgoing in high school, the thought of public speaking frightened me. I only presented in front of a group of people once before college. Oddly enough, my fear of public speaking diminished as my matriculation through undergrad took place.
I am currently a Senior Visual Communications Major at North Carolina Central University. My two passions in this world are art and music. My love for art has led me into a career of graphic design and photography. My passion for music is fulfilled here at NCCU, where I sing with both the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the University Choir. I am elated to be in a position to both create art and music on a daily basis as a collegiate student.
After graduation I plan on attending graduate school; I would like get a master's degree in Brand/Web Development. Then, moving forward, I plan to take on the busy, yet rewarding life as a designer in the advertising world. I know that I will be successful, but I firmly believe that only through humility and hard work will I truly fulfill all of what God has for me.
"You must be able to actively analyze and defend your work.", Professor Floyd said to me as I questioned his logic for a critique of my work.
My biggest fear concerning public speaking deals with my mind suddenly becoming blank; a vast wasteland caused by pressure. Then, that mind slip would lead to stammering and stumbling over the smallest of points. Potentially, my mistakes would diminish my once great point, and I may never get the opportunity to effectively express my ideas with the audience.
