Subhodeep Jash is a policy professional equipped with an inter-sectoral experience of 6 years spanning Commerce Ministry in India, a public affairs arm of a law firm and a German social science institute. He has a strong digital policy focus developing and implementing advocacy programs of several Fortune 500 tech companies. Subhodeep’s background encompasses the intersection of advocacy, research and government relations with a specific focus on tech and trade policy.

His professional experience has ranged from working on trade policy negotiations in the office of Joint Secretary (WTO), Ministry of Commerce (India) to managing regulatory and public affairs strategies for US India Business Council (USIBC) member companies at Dua Consulting. He worked on projects catering to a diverse clientele (including digital economy, retail and automobile sectors).

Subhodeep’s core strength lies in his personality shaped around a curiosity, meticulous and driven approach. This curiosity is inculcated through achieving excellence in winning over 20+ quiz competitions at a national level (such as Economic Times Campus Quiz and Tata Crucible). He has immersed himself in diverse multidisciplinary projects with the rigor of producing high quality output with attention to detail for over 24 client-based projects that he’s handled. A few illustrations of implementing regulatory and reputation management strategies include:

·Crafting and driving engagement plans and policy reports for companies such as Google and Cisco that’re aimed at improving digital access and equity in the Indian regulatory environment.

·strategizing India’s position on the trade in services segment for a free trade agreement negotiated by India with ASEAN.

He has been a part of two Interdisciplinary research projects at WZB Berlin Social Science Center within the global governance and internet policy research units. He was selected as one of 50 Young Shapers globally for Access Now’s RightsCon Toronto 2018 where he presented his work on a capstone thesis project on internet shutdowns in India. He has also published on online content controls, India’s foreign policy and digital transformation agenda.

Currently, Subhodeep is an India-U.S. Public Interest Technology Fellow in New America, where he focuses on a civic engagement research project that combines technology with active citizenship. He is examining how this shapes formation of new participatory regimes and its associated ethical implications.
