The Skinny Yogi aka Leigh Binder received his 200 RYS certification in Mysore, India in Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga in 2012. He also has twenty years of experience as a fitness trainer and martial arts (Jeet Kune Do) instructor.
Sounds good, doesn't it? But that's not the whole story...
Ten years ago he also walked away from all training and gained 70 pounds of pure fat after developing a very bad case of sciatica, which led to serious bouts of depression from living in chronic pain.
Nothing seemed to help until he discovered yoga. After dedicating himself to a daily practice of over a year, he became a vegetarian, the weight came off, the pain disappeared and a new lease on life was discovered. This in turn finally took him to India where he found his true calling in life.
In his own words:
"If you wake up every morning and it hurts just to get out of bed, if you wonder why you should even bother getting dressed to face the day because you are in so much physical, mental or spiritual pain, I'm here to tell you it doesn't have to be that way. If you're not sure if yoga is for you, even if everything in your life seems hunky dory, give yourself permission to give it a try. You might end up realizing that the greatest love affair you'll ever have is with yourself."
