My name is Skylar Salisbury, I live in Athens, Georgia, and my whole life I’ve struggled to focus on things, thanks to my condition of ADHD. As far as I can remember I’ve always been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder and it’s been my internal struggle to find something that can keep my mind in one place. It was at a young age that I found out what it is that puts my ADHD in check, and that would be storytelling, specifically the aesthetically pleasing storytelling that is film. It’s that feeling of sitting down and enveloping myself into a very detailed story that allows my mind to look at every pixel on the screen with enjoyment and satisfaction while, analyzing a soundtrack in the background and putting my identifying with the characters that I follow on these hour and half to three hour adventures, that not only clam my mind, but allow it to bounce from thing to thing, while still focusing on one main thing that being the screen and the story. That’s why in the picture shown at the age of six, I wasn’t dressed up as Spiderman or some superhero for Halloween but director and writer George Lucas, over my fascination of the Star Wars film trilogy. It’s the idea that storytelling is more than entertainment, when someone reaches a certain level of storytelling through cinematography, scripting, and acting that they have essentially crafted art, going above and beyond a normal piece of entertainment, but cementing the idea that with precision and dedication, we all have the ability to go above and beyond the standards that society may hold us too.
