I started college in 1991 and left in 1993 to study and work abroad. I returned from Europe with a better understanding of the world and an entirely new perspective on American life. While Americans are convinced we do everything faster, more efficient, and better than the rest of the world--I learned this is not true. Most industrialized nations succeed where we fail-- they protect worker's rights, acknowledge a parents need to be home with newborn children, and prioritize family over work. I think it's time for America to reprioritize. We are all citizens of the same planet, and each of us is entitled to the basic necessities of life including water, healthy food, clear air, and free speech.

As a single mother of four living in poverty, I also believe good, strong coffee should make the list. I struggled every day for years, working below living wage levels, until I found the means to change my life. In 2010, I returned to finish my degree in Sociology/Anthropology. I was blessed with an opportunity to assist others through tutoring and Supplemental Instruction. I will graduate from the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater this May. I am gleeful about Graduate School, expecting employment with a Non-profit, and committed to changing the American concept of Community.
