Steven L. Towell

Vancouver, Washington, United States

I'm a communication and community relations professional currently working in a government agency, but looking for a new position where I have an opportunity to help a company grow and get their message out while having the opportunity to grow within that company.

I grew up on a ranch in Southwest Idaho and used the lessons learned there to become a public speaker, photographer, broadcaster, trainer, and communication expert.

I took a couple of personality tests to learn more about myself. I learned a few important things:

1. I have one―a personality, that is.
2. It seems to be thriving.

I'm good at learning things quickly and presenting complex and difficult subjects in an interesting and easy-to-understand way that resonates with audiences.

I'm naturally curious. I enjoy creative challenges. I see the possibilities in a situation. I'm confident, witty, and imaginative. I have the focus, energy, and drive to work on and accomplish multiple tasks with competing priorities and deadlines. I have high standards and am a bit of a perfectionis (oops, maybe not as much as I thought), one more try: perfectionist. I'm self-motivated and good at getting projects started and seeing them through to completion. While I can work well alone, I'm better at creating teams and inspiring and motivating others as we work together on important challenges.

Growing up on a ranch in Idaho taught me a lot about determination, perseverance, energy, drive, and seeing things through to completion. That's where I also learned to be self-motivated, to pay attention to what is going on in the world around me. It's also where I learned the value of relationships and working with others, the importance of trust and the value of working together as a community. It is where I learned resourcefulness and how to come up with creative solutions―a remote ranch does not always have access to needed supplies or tools at any given moment, you learn to be innovative and resourceful.

I grew up in a family of creative people who were not afraid to try new things, but who also believed in doing things well. It was from my rancher/craftsman father that I learned the value of high standards in your work and the pursuit of excellence in anything you do.
